With Halloween fast approaching we thought we should talk a bit about chocolate and sugar. Don’t get us wrong, sugar can be part of the magic of chocolate. But, the amount of sugar in most chocolate products is really, really scary.
Here comes the statistics folks!
On Halloween, the average child consumes around 3 cups of sugar. That’s approximately 144 teaspoons of sugar and around 3,000 extra calories. That’s equal to 6 Big Mac’s.
Some of the most popular chocolates given out at Halloween in the UK are:
- Snickers Bars
- Milky way Bars
- Terry’s Chocolate Orange
If you examine the packaging, and the very small print, you will find that literally half of each of these products is sugar! In comparison, our milk chocolate contains nearly 50% less sugar than each of these popular products. A very large sugary divide indeed!
